Jaecoo J5 EV Recognised in the 2026 Australian Good Design Awards

The Jaecoo J5 EV has been recognised as a 2026 Australian Good Design Award Winner in the Product Design - Automotive and Transport category. The award acknowledges the model's research-led development, practical focus and attention to the way electric vehicles are used in everyday Australian households.

As Jaecoo's first fully electric vehicle in Australia, the J5 EV is designed as a compact SUV for routine family duties as well as longer weekend use. Its design brief extends beyond the electric drivetrain, with particular attention paid to cabin usability and the needs of households that travel with pets. The jury highlighted the model's pet-friendly approach as an area that addresses an overlooked part of the local EV market.

A key part of that approach is the use of TÜV SÜD certified synthetic leather cabin materials. The material selection is intended to provide a durable, practical interior for daily use, including the inevitable dirt and mess associated with active households and pets. This is complemented by a clean, uncluttered cabin design that places emphasis on comfort and straightforward usability.

The J5 EV combines its practical interior with a composed exterior appearance and a panoramic glass roof, giving the cabin a more open feel. Inside, an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster provides the primary driving information, while a larger 13.2-inch infotainment screen forms the centre of the vehicle's interface. Together, these elements give the cabin a contemporary technology focus without detracting from its everyday functionality.

The model's recognition reflects a design philosophy based on solving ordinary ownership needs rather than concentrating solely on visual presentation. The award jury also noted the vehicle's sustainability considerations, accessible positioning and efforts to broaden the appeal of electric mobility without compromising perceived quality.

The J5 EV is supported by an eight-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an eight-year battery warranty, along with eight years of capped-price servicing and up to eight years of roadside assistance. These provisions are presented as part of the model's ownership package and complement its role as an electric SUV intended for regular day-to-day use.
